Why isn't Washington Mutual still not helping people renegotiate or modify

there mortgages? a family member was later by 2 days on her mortgage and like clockwork WaMu called her like nothing is going on,,she payed it by no one asked her if she wanted to modify and restructure the mortgage. whats going on here
